Recently helped (and when I say help I mean I have done it all myself ;)) with a design and mix for BYMT – British Youth Music Theatre.
It was fun, but also very hard work. I met some talented people and learnt a lot. Maybe the biggest revelation I had was realising that competent mixer makes the show great. Whilst designing and operation the show, I found out that design is just a part (not so difficult part) of the whole sound of the show, but the flavour, pleasure in listening and overall great experience for the public comes from skills of the mixer. I am, by no means, trying to take away from the designers, as the do indeed shape the sound, but “just sayin’” that skilled mixer can make the show sound amazing, when “not so skilled” mixer can ruin all the hard work of the designer and production engineer/system tech.
Anyway it was great fun indeed.
